Laboratory reports, translated

Breaking Down The Mystery Of Third-Party Lab Testing

A real laboratory report is useful only when the fields are read together. This guide uses an independent public report—not an EssenceCraft product—to show exactly what the language means.

No badges. No vague purity claims. Just the document and how to read it.

Start with a real report

One table. Every field has a different job.

The example below transcribes the heavy-metal panel from a public AGQ USA analytical report. The complete three-page report remains the source of record.

The LOQ saga, made simple

LOQ is not the approved safety limit.

They may appear in the same unit, but they answer completely different questions. LOQ describes the laboratory method. An applicable safety or specification limit is set separately for a particular product, market and exposure basis. A result shown as <LOQ means “below the measuring floor”—not “below the approved safety limit.”

Laboratory measuring floor LOQ: 0.010 mg/kg

The lowest concentration this specific method can reliably quantify as a number.

Safety / specification limit Set separately

The maximum allowed concentration must come from the applicable regulation, standard or product specification.

LOQ tells you how low the lab can measure.

A lower LOQ means a more sensitive measurement. It does not automatically mean a safer product.

The safety limit tells you what is allowed.

That limit must be named and sourced. It cannot be inferred from the LOQ printed on a report.

Pass or fail compares the result with the correct limit.

Use the same units and exposure basis. Never use the LOQ column as the approved maximum.

Think of a ruler. LOQ is the smallest marking the ruler can reliably measure. The safety threshold is the boundary you must not cross. One describes the tool; the other describes the limit.
