Shilajit Benefits for Men: All 13 Explained

The honest answer is more useful than a 13-benefit list: human research on shilajit in men is narrow, but it is not empty. Studies have reported changes in testosterone, semen parameters, fatigue-related muscular strength, a collagen-synthesis biomarker and—more recently—physical-performance measures in a small resin pilot.

Those findings deserve attention. They also need to be read exactly as conducted: specific preparations, specific groups of men, specific research protocols and specific endpoints. A result for one purified extract cannot automatically be assigned to every resin product or expanded into claims about libido, sleep, immunity, heart disease or longevity.

1. Testosterone: a real signal with a defined boundary

The testosterone trial is the clearest male-specific randomized result. In healthy men aged 45 to 55, the tested purified preparation produced higher total testosterone, free testosterone and DHEAS than placebo at day 90.

That result should not be watered down—but it should not be inflated either. The study did not show that every man’s testosterone rises, did not test Essencraft’s finished resin, and did not demonstrate treatment of clinically low testosterone. It also did not measure muscle gain, erections, libido or daily energy.

Ninety-six participants were randomized and 75 were included in the reported analysis. The published table also shows a baseline total-testosterone difference between groups. Together with the industry funding and use of a specific PrimaVie preparation, that tempers how broadly the day-90 result should be generalized.

2. Sperm measures are not the same as proven fertility

The oligospermia study reported improvements from baseline in sperm concentration, total count, motility and other measures among the 28 men who completed it. That is an interesting reproductive signal.

The central limitation is simple: there was no placebo group. Without a comparator, the study cannot show how much of the change came from the intervention rather than normal variation, concurrent changes, regression to the mean or other factors. Semen measures also do not equal pregnancy or live-birth outcomes.

3. Strength and performance evidence is promising but specific

In the eight-week double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized strength study, 63 men were assigned to three groups of 21. The difference versus placebo was confined to the median-split upper-strength subgroup—10 participants per group—not the full sample. The lower tested amount did not outperform placebo.

A newer 28-day pilot tested TruBlk resin, a solvent-free aqueous extract standardized to at least 60% fulvic acids, at 250 mg twice daily. It reported within-group improvements in leg press, endurance, grip strength, estimated aerobic capacity and fatigue measures. Because all 25 participants knew what they were taking, there was no control group, numerous outcomes were tested without adjustment for multiple comparisons, and aerobic capacity was estimated from a step test rather than measured directly, the findings are preliminary. They justify a larger randomized resin trial; they do not establish a guaranteed performance effect.

4. A collagen biomarker is not a repaired joint

The collagen study found that serum pro-c1α1 increased from baseline within both shilajit groups while placebo did not change. In the responder analysis, the 1,000 mg group differed significantly from placebo; the 500 mg comparison did not reach statistical significance (p=0.06). That is a biological signal worth investigating. The trial did not demonstrate fewer injuries, stronger tendons, higher bone density, less joint pain or greater muscle size.

Claims that do not belong in a proven-benefits list

The human studies above do not establish the following popular claims:

  • better memory, focus or protection from Alzheimer’s disease;
  • fewer infections or a “stronger” immune system;
  • lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol or reduced heart-disease risk;
  • treatment of anxiety, stress disorders or poor sleep;
  • removal of heavy metals or other toxins from the body;
  • slower aging or a longer life;
  • greater libido, improved erections or better sexual performance;
  • stronger male bones or joints.

Laboratory experiments, animal models and review articles can generate research questions. They cannot be sold as demonstrated benefits in men. The old heart claim, for example, relied on rats with chemically induced myocardial injury. The frequently cited bone-density trial enrolled postmenopausal women with osteopenia, so it cannot support a men-specific bone claim.

Study product and shop product are not automatically equivalent

Most male trials used particular purified or standardized extracts. The newer pilot used a different branded resin. Processing, composition and research controls matter. Milligram amounts from those protocols are not serving instructions for a different finished product.
